Amnesty International (AI) is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights.

CEDAW: The Women's Rights Treaty - Human Rights Watch campaign
CEDAW represents the culmination of decades of work by the United Nations, governments, and women's rights activists. The First World Conference on Women, held in Mexico City in 1975, resulted in a call for a treaty for women's rights. On December 18, 1979, the U.N. General Assembly adopted CEDAW. As of December 2004, there are 177 parties to CEDAW. "Although the United States has long claimed to be at the forefront of the women's rights movement, failing to ratify the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) hurts women in the US and diminishes the US's credibility when it critiques other countries' records on women's rights. By ratifying CEDAW, the US would send a strong message that it is serious about the protection of women's human rights around the world. Ratification would also enable the US to nominate experts to the CEDAW Committee, and thereby be in a position to take part in interpreting CEDAW."

The Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is the body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by its State parties. It also monitors implementation of two optional protocols to the Convention, on involvement of children in armed conflict and on sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography

Human Rights Watch is an NGO dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world.

International Criminal Court
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is an independent, permanent court that tries persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The ICC is based on a treaty, joined by 104 countries. The ICC is a court of last resort. It will not act if a case is investigated or prosecuted by a national judicial system unless the national proceedings are not genuine, for example if formal proceedings were undertaken solely to shield a person from criminal responsibility. In addition, the ICC only tries those accused of the gravest crimes. In all of its activities, the ICC observes the highest standards of fairness and due process. The jurisdiction and functioning of the ICC are governed by the Rome Statute.

IWRAW Asia Pacific is a non-profit international women's organisation based in the South. We promote the domestic implementation of international human rights standards by building the capacity of women and human rights advocates to claim and realise women's human rights.
