- How to Access Our Services
- The Immigration Law Program provides legal consultations and immigration assistance to the low-income, immigrant and Spanish speaking community of San Francisco and San Mateo counties. Please make an appointment by calling (415) 575-3500. All appointments take place at La Raza Centro Legal, 474 Valencia St. #295, San Francisco, CA 94103.
- Recent Cases
La Raza Centro Legal works with the Lawyer's Committee to ensure that many immigrants of the community are able to receive private counsel in complex cases.
In 2007, 17 month old Hazelle Roa was able to remain in the United States to receive surgery for rare chromosomal condition which includes a constricted heart valve. Community attorney David Lunas came forward to assist with Baby Roa's case, allowing Baby Roa's parents to remain in the U.S. Baby Roa is a U.S.
The Roas crossed the border illegally in 1990, and following poor legal advice, entered a frivolous case for asylum. In November 2004, the Board of Immigration Appeals ruled they were in the United States illegally and gave them the option of leaving on their own. When they failed to go by the deadline, the request became a deportation order.
In May 2007 they got a letter telling them to surrender to immigration authorities on June 26. Additional legal work is now needed to allow Baby Roa' parents remain in the U.S. for additional medical work. The court filing costs are costly and the family is seeking support from the community.

- An Urban County resident of Contra Costa County alleged their landlord of child discrimination. The allegation was appropriately documented and a complaint was filed with the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
- This past fiscal year, a tenant who was inappropriately served was assisted with their response to an unlawful detainer (eviction) was successful in having the complaint dismissed due to a technicality.
- An extremely low-income tenant who is a single mother of two children and caretaker of a legally blind member of her household sought the assistance of La Raza Centro Legal about habitability issues and overpayment of utilities. After assisting the tenant by documenting the habitability issues and defending an eviction, the tenant's repairs were addressed, overpayments were credited and the eviction was dismissed.
