Joel Aguiar Day Labor Director
Joel was born in Mexico, but he immigrated to the US at a young age. Raised in a small agricultural area in southern California, he saw the skewed labor laws that fomented the poverty that exist in the hard working immigrant communities, especially farm worker communities. He attended Imperial Valley College before transferring to UC Berkeley. While studying English literature in UC Berkeley, he organized for undocumented student rights and for a humane immigration reform. He co-founded a group in Berkeley to support and empower undocumented student. Currently, he is working with the SF Day Labor Program as the director. Joel enjoys being able to spend time with the day laborers; he is inspired by their dedication and spirit they bring to the immigrant rights struggle.
