Genevie Gallegos Associate Director
Genevie Gallegos is a graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law, UC Berkeley. She began with La Raza Centro Legal in 2000 as the Workers' Rights Coordinating Attorney. As La Raza's Associate Director, Genevie oversees the legal services programs.
Prior to her work with La Raza, Genevie litigated plaintiffs' employment law cases in state and federal court as an associate attorney with a San Jose Latino law firm and was an attorney with the union law firm of Van Bourg, Rosenfeld and Rogers. In addition, Genevie litigated housing discrimination cases in federal court as staff attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Santa Clara County. She also was a public defender with the Contra Costa County Public Defender's Office.
Upon graduating from law school in 1990, Genevie began her legal career as a fellow with Public Advocates and assisted tenants with eviction defense at the Legal Aid Society of Alameda County. During law school, Genevie oversaw the Migrant Legal Services Project through Boalt Hall's La Raza Law Students Association. As a law student, she interned with Instituto Laboral de La Raza, the Alameda County Public Defender's Office, Litt & Stormer, and the East Bay Community Law Center.
In 2004, Genevie was recognized by the Minority Bar Association and San Francisco La Raza Lawyers Association for "outstanding service to the legal community." Currently, Genevie sits on the Board of WAGES (Women's Action to Gain Economic Security), which promotes worker-owned cooperatives.
